It’s that time of year again; hurricane season is now in full-swing. With Hurricane Matthew’s, passing, you may have seen the damage in North Carolina and be worried about your own property. The entire east coast is vulnerable to hurricane damage, and will be until late in the year when the season ends. Here are some quick tips that will help keep your security fence secured during this tremulous season.
1. Trim Trees
Trees are the biggest culprit for damages when it comes to hurricanes, even for solid fences like security fences. With enough force, wind can knock trees hard enough into fences to break them. Make sure there aren’t any excessive branches near your fence that could damage it. It won’t completely protect your fence from debris, but it’s a start.
2. Secure Posts
Fence posts go deep into the ground, regardless of what kind of fence it is; but sometimes, fence posts can become loose. While this isn’t much of an issue during calm weather, hurricanes are brutal, and may rip these posts out of the ground and create a projectile. Walk around your fence and ensure that each post is securely in the ground.
3. Lock Your Gate
One of the most vulnerable parts of your fence is your security gate. With a hinge, it can easily become a projectile with strong winds. Make sure you’ve got your gate locked tight, and even secure it with a padlock and chain so the winds can’t blow it off the hinges.
