Security Essentials for your Facility

In the world of high-security fences, there are a lot of different options available for a variety of different applications and facilities. In this blog, we are going to examine some of the varieties of high-security fences and the importance of K ratings when choosing a fence.

Options for Different Applications

Depending on the security level of your facility and the type of security breaches you are concerned about, you will need to take different security precautions. If your main concern is trying to stop intruders from being able to climb over your fence, the most important things to invest in are anti-climb fences, barbed or razor wire, and possibly even guard posts. This creates a nearly impenetrable barrier but is not optimal for every situation because of its harsh and imposing appearance. For situations where more elegant security is desired, there are more visually appealing options to create a secure barrier. Ornamental, anti-climb metal railings look much less scary than standard high-security fences while providing comparable security and often being more difficult to break or cut through than chain or wire fences.

Bollards and K Ratings

Climbing is not the only thing you have to worry about when designing a high-security fence. A tall anti-climb barbed wire topped fence presents a nearly insurmountable barrier to a single person but may be vulnerable to a large vehicle which could knock it over completely. If vehicles are a concern for your facility, you should pay attention to the K rating of your fence. K rating is a measure of how much force a fence can withstand before breaking. A K4 rated fence will stop a 15,000 lbs vehicle moving at 30mph, a K8 will stop one going 40mpg, and a K12 will stop the same vehicle going 50mph. On the other hand, if you are looking for a security option that will stop vehicles while allowing for foot traffic, bollards can be an excellent investment. Bollards can also keep areas of heavy pedestrian traffic and storefronts safe from erratic drivers.
