When it comes to fencing that is affordable, easy to install, and easy to maintain, you cannot beat the chain link fence. Unfortunately, these fences can offer a foothold that makes them slightly easier to climb than other types of fencing – unless you take the right precautions. Here are some of the ways that your chain link fencing can offer superior security.
Choose the Right Selvage
When you are looking at options for your chain link fence, one of the things that you will have to choose is the selvage. Selvage is used to describe how the wire ends are bent at the top and the bottom of the fence. For example, if the fence is going to be installed around a baseball diamond, the selvage would be folded over so that people would not get hurt if they touch the edge. However, if you are designing your fence with security in mind, this edge could be left twisted or unfolded to deter anyone from attempting to climb over or under it.
Add a Bottom Rail
You might think about climbing a chain link fence to gain access to a property, but many times, someone crawls underneath instead. Adding a bottom rail to your fence will make it much harder for the bottom to be lifted or cut. This deters people from attempting to crawl or dig underneath the fence. If you cannot add a bottom rail, using buried mesh to extend the length of the fence is another option.
Install Posts Close Together
Depending on the nature of your business and who might want to gain access, there is a risk that the fence could be cut and a car could be driven between the fence posts. The average chain link fence is installed with about 10 feet between each post. By spacing the posts more closely together, it can deter anyone from attempting to gain access in this manner.
