One such security measure that may be put into place is a security fence along Fifth Avenue during Pope Francis’ visit to New York City later this month. The fence will likely divide the sidewalk from 49th to 59th streets and those coming out to see the pope will need to be cleared by metal detectors to get street-side access. Those who don’t get clearance will be able to view the pope from the building side of the fence. This plan is under consideration because of the pope’s proclivity for getting out of his vehicle to meet and greet the faithful.
